'THE TWILIGHT HOUR' ~ (Hubbard Lake Sunset)

“It is the hour when from the boughs
The nightingale's high note is heard;
It is the hour when lovers' vows
Seem sweet in every whispered word;
And gentle winds, and waters near,
Make music to the lonely ear.
Each flower the dews have lightly wet,
And in the sky the stars are met,
And on the wave is deeper blue,
And on the leaf a browner hue,
And in the heaven that clear obscure,
So softly dark, and darkly pure.
Which follows the decline of day,
As twilight melts beneath the moon away.”

Lord Byron
(George Gordon Noel Byron)

  3. Beautiful. We are renting a place in Tawas this summer and I'm sure we will be visiting my relatives up at Lost Lake. Truly...can't wait.

  4. Twilight Hour -- Where are the vampires? I'm just teasing. I met a woman recently on a horse trip who has a place at Hubbard Lake. And, she described it as heaven. You gals would enjoy each other's company...

  5. Thanks Cat ... appreciate your thoughts and so enjoyed your last post ...until the snake! Aren't I a wimp! Look at this place in the thick of the woods ... I must be surrounded by them! Back home in the garden ... too :)

    Yes waking, Eileen. The lake has thawed since last here 2 weeks ago. Love it! Will be looking for the return of my loons tomorrow ... a sure sign of spring! The equinox sets directly in front ... we are so blessed. Year round, each evening unique, our sunsets are awesome!

    Love Tawas, Lindalou. You are sure to have a lovely vacation and if you get north to Lost Lake, keep in touch since we are here as much as possible and right up the hill from Smokey's :) You also have an open invitation to visit me back home in the garden.

    Hi Kate! If there are vampires, they would love 'hidden' spring-fed Hubbard Lake 'jewel of the north' as does your fun friend who has a place here. Wonder where? It's a big lake (27 miles around) but ... would be fun to connect. So, come and introduce us :)

  6. What a beautiful sunset! As a kid I used to spend a few nights on Hubbard Lake with my friend's grandparents. It's a great place to have a cottage.

  11. Hi Zoey! Thank you. I have been coming to the lake since I was four, never thinking I would still be so in love. Like stepping back in time, much is still the same. The lake gives (thawed since last here and my loons, a sure sign of spring, have returned) and I'm here to enjoy!

    Thank you, Karin. Happy to be here this weekend, I'm blessed. The remains of the day is my favorite!

    Hi Rose. That is exactly how I feel ... in Paradise! I crave sunsets but I love my back home life, and often feel in Paradise there too. I'm double blessed!

    Thank you, Kanak! I'm in awe of where you live and your beautiful images too!

    Thank you, Cher. Each sunset is unique ... happy to be here to enjoy.
