November
There is wind where the rose was,
November
There is wind where the rose was,
Cold rain where sweet grass was,
And clouds like sheep Stream o'er the steep
Grey skies where the lark was.
Nought warm where your hand was,
Nought gold where your hair was,
But phantom, forlorn,
Beneath the thorn,
Your ghost where your face was.
Cold wind where your voice was,
Tears, tears where my heart was,
And ever with me, Child, ever with me,
Silence where hope was.
~ Walter de la Mare

I love the effect of the photo and it's perfect for the poem. "Your ghost where your face was." How poignant.
ReplyDeleteThat poem is one of my favorites -- and your lovely photo is a perfect side dish. :)
ReplyDeleteSad poem... but a beautiful picture.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect of the scenery showing through the transparent petals of that rose. A lovely but melencholy poem today.

Such a sad poem, but a lovely photo. The photo reminds me of "A Rose for Emily" by Faulkner; it would be the perfect illustration for that story, Joey.
ReplyDeleteSad poem.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic...shades of gray.
