WEDNESDAY WANDERINGS ~ JANUARY FULL MOON / LONE WINTER LEAVES

"Don't judge any man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins."

~ Indian Proverb

January Full Moon
'Great Spirit Moon' ~ Obijwe
(Gichi-manidoo-giizis)

Lone Leaf on a Branch

One leaf left on a branch
and not a sound of sadness
or despair. One leaf left
on a branch and no unhappiness.
One leaf left all by itself
in the air and it does not speak
of loneliness or death.
One leaf and it spends itself
in swaying mildly in the breeze.

~ David Ignatow

"The fall of a leaf is a whisper to the living."

~ Russian Proverb

Winter Dew Drops

"Man's life is like a drop of dew on a leaf."

~ Socrates

"Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain."

~ Henry David Thoreau

You reminded me that tonight is full moon. We won't even be able to see it, it is snowing.
These are unique photos... I like the quotes as well, Joey.

The perfect, peaceful way to wind down a day and evening, Joey. It's overcast here, but I'll hold your moon in my mind's eye as I drift away like a leaf on a breeze...

Hi Joey, awesome photos as always. The leaf photos looks so touchy to the emotion, maybe just for me though. I love H David Thoreau too, in fact i have his quotation in my profile. Nature is really our best friend. thanks Joey.

Thank you, fer. It's that time of year when minds wander ...

Thank you, sweet Marysol. You have been in my loving thoughts. In another life, I think you were a poet :)

So generous with your insightful thoughts, thank you, dear Carol.

Thanks, gifted behind the lens, imac!

Thanks, Eileen. The day are long ... time to think :)

I know how you too love the moon ... thank you, dear Di.

How kind, Whimsical. Thank you. I am a moon lover ... spellbound by it's beauty!

Shady, you are a dear and thank you. Yes, I often post moon shots ... often artsy/surreal and not as they appear to the average viewer :) I'm a bit quirky (but you know that)!

I do hope you get a glimpse, Rosey. I'm heading north tomorrow for more snow and, hopefully, besides entertaining weekend guests, some snowshoeing. Thank you for your kind comment.

Overcast or not, jodi, the beautiful moon is there shining on all of us. Besides our fondness for each other, another connection ... sleep well :)

Am beside you in your lovely comment, Andrea. Thank you. Moved by the snow, lonely leaves that tell a story, and the moon ... my thoughts wander ... so me :)

Joey, you did it again! Oh, the sheer beauty of your words and your images...!! I particularly liked the words by David Ignatow. i'd never have imagined such creativity with a leaf/leaves. Salute!

As gardeners, we revel in lush landscape and can't wait to prune unsightly plants.

Yet there is a poignant beauty in a lone leaf hanging on a branch.

Thanks for the great quotes and pics, joey.

Your images with beautifully selected poetry are magical. I am very guilty of not walking in others shoes, and am constantly trying to do better. To me the Ignatow poem speaks to aging, and I hope I am that philosophical when I get there.

So enjoy the photos of leaves. Have many original pieces of art with leaves and nature. All give me wonder and delight at the beauty of the simple leaf. The Winter photos are great. Right now here on the shores of Lake Michigan, lots of snow and cold, but even now there is beauty in the simplicity of the plants. You might enjoy seeing a few of the photos on my postings. You can check them out using Google search engine: watersatgardenseast.blogspot.com/ Do enjoy. Jack

Welcome Paul Garden ... visitors, especially from across the sea, are always a delight. Thank you. It was a joy for me to visit you too :)

I'm there, Carolyn, wishing/striving to be as beautifully philosophical as Ignatow. So enjoy connecting ... thank you.

Thanks, dear Kala (we share a mutual admiration society :)

Welcome Gardens at Waters East and thank you for the intoduction ... I did indeed enjoy my visit ... many of my favorite things.

Thanks, Rick. Fun to step 'out of the box' :)

Thank you, dear Rose. I'm touched by your comment. Well, warm is about minus 10 (we are at the lake)! It's frigid but winter beautiful.

Lovely photos, Joey. We did a full moon snowshoe in hopes of capturing some good pics but the clouds rolled in and stole our view of the January moon. Saw on FB that you're enjoying a lovely weekend at the lake? Stay warm my friend...
