Northern Spy apples are some of the best and tastiest apples to bake with. Thanks for sharing this recipe... it looks like a good one to try.
Your photos are terrific!

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend!

Dearest Joey, Apple Pie is generally regarded within the UK as a typically English pudding. However, I have in fact always felt that Apple Pies belonged much more to America and I am secretly convinced that you make very much better ones.

Have a lovely weekend!

Your mum pictures have captured the golds of autumn beautifully.

Joey, I knew there was another reason I liked Jane Austen! I have a bag of Cortland Apples sitting on my counter ready for two pies.

Our local grocery store gets them each autumn from Door County, Wisconsin. I don't see the Spy apples around here so I hope my Cortland are almost as good.

Welcome, Viola, and thank you. I just returned from your lovely blog ... awesome photography!

Totally agree, Rosey, and thank you. Happy weekend to you :)

Thank you, Sweetbay, just what I had hoped! Autumn joy :)

Hi Eileen, I have used Cortlands, not a bad substitute but, for me, nothing is as wonderful as the Northern Spy.

I generally avoid desserts, apple pie being the exception with jug loads of custard!!!

Lovely Autumn colours in your pictures. Apple in all sorts of different ways are tasty, this weekend they are going to end up as pie I think :)

Nothing says autumn like Mums, does it? I love apple season. I've already made a blackberry-apple crisp, and a brandied fig-apple-walnut bread pudding. Not sure I dare make a pie, at least not for another week! :P

Hi Joey, so glad to find you amongst the links for Blooming Friday! Autumn is such a bittersweet season - so beautiful and yet a little sad since we know that spring is quite far away. -Lovely collages!
Enjoy your weekend!

The recipe sounds delicious! And I'm always amazed to see the blooms in your garden. Love the collages and as always, your quotes are the most appropriate.

Happy October!

Your closing quote is wonderful. I will tuck that away to enjoy in the future. And I'd love a slice of your apple crumble ;>)

Ok, if I must! I'm going into the kitchen right now and gather a few of the apples we picked last evening and make an apple crisp! ;)

PS: that mum looks good enough to eat.

aloha joey,

love your macro shots and mosaic...the recipe, i'll have to try out one day...you know apples are exotic for us here in hawaii :)

Oh my, Clare, the Brandied Apple/Fig Bread Pudding sounds divine! I've resigned myself to fall, it's here and I'm diving into it, head first (easy today 'cause it chilly and rainy)!

Thank you, dear Katarina. I hear you about the bittersweet feeling of fall ... not much pink in the garden for you :) Wishing us both a glorious autumn.

Happy October, dear Kanak :) I'm surprised too at the gifts still blooming in the garden but it has been quite mild, considering it's October.

How delightful if you lived a bit closer, EE. I can think of nothing lovelier than sharing a crumble piece with you.

I love the pie if only for the smell baking, Di! The mum is edible too! Enjoy and happy autumn :)

Aloha Noel and thank you :) Hum, did not know that about apples! Maybe you could make 'Pine'apple Pie/Crisp :)

I love your end of the month and beginnings collages, Joey. The quote is perfect--I'm going to savor every moment of October that I can. Maybe we can put off winter for awhile:)

I love the rich colours in this post, of course, and also have an irresistible craving for apple pie, now. Guess I know what hubby needs to do tomorrow!

Your collages are so beautiful. My husband likes to cook, and one of his specialties is apple pie, using a recipe similar to yours. It's yummy!

hi Joey, I love mums and oakleaf hydangeas! And, you may be surprised to learn, I make a mean apple crisp. :)

Forgive me, dearest Edith, this batch of Blogger comments appeared in strange order and some got stuck! Interesting comment on Apple Pie/Pudding in England. You've no doubt have heard the saying that something is "as American as apple pie." But I'm sure some form of this dessert has been around for ages ... apple, crust, heat ... ta-da!

So sorry, Kala. The same with your comment that got stuck. Thank you and Happy autumn shooting!

Hello AnnA. Thank you for visiting and your lovely comment. Best wishes :)

Ooh, Nutty, bet your pies are awesome! You are much like I am and when not in the garden, in the kitchen creating :)

I'm with you, Rose. October is here to embrace. I'm going to hold on tight and enjoy the vibrant color and falling leaves. Thank you for your lovely comment.

Hi jodi and thank you. In the midst of fall, I'm finally surrendering ... hard not too surrounded by vibrant color and wonderful smells. Did you get your wish for a pie?

Thank you, Deb. You are a lucky gal to have a husband (like jodi) that likes to bake ... especially yummy apple pies!

Thanks, Monica. I'm not surprised ... you are a woman of many talents :)
