WELCOME OCTOBER ~ GARDEN BLOGGERS' MUSE DAY

BALED HAY
(Hubbard Lake)
________________

BALED HAY

"Wheels of baled hay bask in October sun:

Gold circles strewn across the sloping field,

They seem arranged as if each one

Has found it's place; together they appeal

To some glimpsed order in my mind

Preceeding my chance pausing here --

A randomness that also seems designed.

Gold circles strewn across the sloping field

Evoke a silence deep as my deep fear

Of emptiness; I feel the scene requires

A listnener who can respond with words, yet who

Prolongs the silence that I still desire,

Relieved as clacking crows come flashing through,

Whose blackness shows chance radiance of fire.

Yet stillness in the field remains for everyone:

Wheels of baled hay bask in October sun."

Hi Joey, These photos are just beautiful. That's appealing to the "farmer" in me! ;-) Happy October.

Thank you, dear 'Farmer' Shady, and Happy October to you!

Thanks, Dee ... autumnal wishes to you also. Where did the summer go? Did you see it fly by?

Hi Nancy and thank you. I'm surprised I remembered GBMD but glad I did. It's fun to honor the new month.

You think so too, Rosey! Hum ... I wonder who doesn't think of shredded wheat. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Autumn!

Hi Joey - what a wonderful, evocative poem! I'd not come across Robert Pack before, but you've inspired me to read some more of his works now - so thanks for that ..... great photos too!

Beautiful poem Joey! These photos are simply gorgeous, and fond reminders of many visits to your beautiful state when my girls were small.

I had never heard of Robert Pack before I found this poem either, Nutty. Just kind of hit me for for welcoming October. Have a lovely weekend and don't work too hard!

Michigan is indeed a beautiful state, Linda. I have lived here all my life and am still in awe (with much yet to visit). Now, you MUST visit and bring the grandchildren! Happy autumn days!

what a sense of the october countryside you have given us. this could be right down the street from us...it feels familiar to our beautiful lands surrounding us. i love this time of year with it's hay bales and golden hues.
happy autumn.

And Happy Autumn to you, dear Marmee. Indeed it is lovely and very different from where we live back home. This beautiful countryside surrounds Hubbard Lake where we are this weekend at our cottage. The lake is almost 30 miles around, very hilly ... Amish country with rich fertile farm land. Two of these photos will be featured in a benefit calendar that I'm working on for the library building fund.

Wonderful light and imbued with a sense of continuity and security.

Lovely

P.S. 'Calendar' was one of my thoughts too.

How kind, Lucy. As you well know, autumn light is a photographer's dream. Am anxious to view your fall portfolio!
