A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ... 'A DAYLILY' ~ SUMMER ALE / FRESH HERB PORK TENDERLOIN with GRILLED PEACHES

"Always hold fast to the present. Every situation, indeed every moment, is of infinite value, for it is the representative of a whole eternity."

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

In awe of each stunning daylily that only lives for a day

Vixen’s Summer Ale (Tricky Vickis)

~ dear friend Vicki's refreshing summer ale ... 'two thumbs up' for a picnic or leisurely cruise on the boat

Ingredients:

1 (6 ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 (6 ounce) can of vodka (fill after dumping out lemonade)
4 bottles Corona beer
Fresh muddled Mint

Combine all ingredients, pour over ice and garnish with fresh limes.

FRESH HERB PORK TENDERLOIN with GRILLED PEACHES
~ Perfect summer fare while peaches are at their peak

2 well-trimmed pork tenderloins

2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
3 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
3 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary
2 cloves minced garlic
fresh ground pepper to taste
1 tsp. kosher or sea salt

4 peaches cut into thick slices
juice of a fresh lemon
extra-virgin olive oil

  • Combine thyme, rosemary and fresh garlic.
  • Coat tenderloin with olive oil and sprinkle with pepper and salt. Roll tenderloins in fresh herb mixture. Set aside to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes or place in refrigerator for several hours. Let come to room temp before grilling.
  • Grill tenderloin until meat thermometer inserted into center reads 140º, about 5 minutes per side. Remove and let rest while you cook the peaches.
  • Sprinkle sliced peaches with fresh lemon juice and brush with olive oil. Grill on high heat for 1-2 minutes, enough to get good grill marks.
  • Slice tenderloin into 1/4-inch diagonal pieces. Serve with grilled peaches.

A day in the garden

Joey,

My favorite things, daylilies and pork tenderlion. With the heat we are having thank goodness for those sturdy daylilies. The pork recipe sounds easy and delicious, especially since it can be done on the grill. Grilled peaches and a glass of ale, yum!

I can't think of a better flower to illustrate living in the moment than daylilies. You have such a lovely variety, Joey, and the images are beautiful. I'm not getting much else done in the garden these days with this heat, but I do take the time to marvel each day at every new lily bloom. I hope you're staying cool!

The daylily photos are great. the ones I have been hybridizing for the past four years are just beginning to bloom this week. It amazes me to see what I have created. So many recessive genes are coming forward. Most interesting. I think they love living here on Lake Michigan as much as many people do so they show it in fantastic blooms! Still collecting photos and will post at a latter date. Pork isn't bad either. Jack

Thanks Eileen. Yes, it's a fun supper and the grilled peaches are yummy. They would be great on ice cream!

I hear you, Rose, and thank you! Heading toward 100º today. I wilt in the heat!

LOVE that Anne Dillard quote, dear Joey ... and your collages highlighting so many wonderful garden views. Every lily a piece of artwork with throats of brilliant color and petals so large and bright.Your garden must be glorious. Just beautiful.

Bought some more peaches yesterday with your nudge for grilling ... I'm excited to try this recipe.

I do hope you can survive this heat. Here's hoping it won't last too long. Do you cool down at night?

You really know how to grow and show daylilies! Awesome (did I say that?) photos.

Grilled Tenderloin and Peaches -- yum. It is the season....must take a road trip to peach country and buy them by the roadside!

The 4 bottles of Corona would disappear before I ever finished this recipe. I don't drink beer, but someone who plays bluegrass music does.

How sweet, dear Meems. You well know my vacillating life between 2 worlds, each wonderful/each unique. Packing tonight for another week adventure at the lake. But leaving my garden also makes me sad ... I miss so much while away then rush to tend while home ... one reason I chose to focus on a simple day in the garden ... If you try the recipe, let me know if it's 2,1 or 0 'thumbs up'! Summer ((hugs)).

Ha, ha ... dear Freda. How fun to sip Corona and listen to 'the musician'. I'll bring the tenderloin for a alfresco dinner :)

Thanks Tina ... yes, the tenderloin is summer easy and yummy :)

Imac, imac, imac ... a huge compliment coming from you, 'eye behind the lens', fun friend:)

Good choice on this hot evening, Jewel! Very refreshing :) Summer wonders ...

So sweet, dear Andrea. Thank you.

The pork tenderloin sounds great...I should have saved some of the peaches I just used to make a cobbler with! Will have to go get some more!

Dear Gardens @ Waters East ... what a joy it must be to see new faces! Please share. Stay cool. Besides weather, our beloved Great Lakes are always a wonder!

So was the cobbler yummy, Cat! Peaches are at their peak and would have enjoyed sharing a bite. This tenderloin recipe is perfect for a summer fun dinner. Grilled peaches are awesome!

Gorgeous daylily photos Joey! Your pork tenderloin recipe sounds fantastic. We have a couple of tenderloins in the freezer from our farmer, and now I know just what to do with them!
