MONDAY MUSING ~ 'RHAPSODY in BLUE' (SIBERIAN SQUILL)

"Blue color is everlastingly appointed by the Deity to be a source of delight."
~ John Ruskin

Siberian squill
(Scilla siberica)

' Rhapsody in Blue'
_________
"Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer."

- Geoffrey B. Charlesworth

Gardener's Note: One of the first brave visitors poking its nose through the earth ... noteworthy ... its intense hint of true blue exerts a mysterious magnetism.

Great photos of the Scilla. I like them best when they turn a lawn into a pool of blue. They're such a fantastic color.

Hi Joey, this is something I do not grow, but after viewing your photos, simply must! The first shot is the epitome of beauty!

One of my favorite of the 'tiny' bulbs. Isn't the color exquisitely blue! They photograph nicely, too! gail

Electric Squill (scilla) sends thrilling shock waves, Monica. Anxious to get out (if it ever stops raining) and capture the rich mat of intense color!

I agree, MMG, it's breathtaking. There is 'a pool of blue' posing under a blooming magnolia, waiting to be photographed ... how lovely is that! (now, please stop the rain)

Frances, your fairies would delight hiding in a blanket of squill! As a mass, it's stunning ... but up close, even more so!

Indeed they are, Gail. I'm always thankful that this area of my garden is very secluded and neighbors can't see me on the ground with my camera, capturing these tiny wonders :)

This is such a wonderful sight! I love Scilla and the delightful sea of blue they are massed together. Today I noticed that the Scilla foliage has appeared ~ it is funny to see the way the leaves pierce through the dead leaves on top of them. Must remove soon! Enjoy your beauties...

Delighted to see that spring has found you, Kate! Many pass these beautiful patches of blue and never stop to enjoy their beauty.

I Love these little flowers!! They and grape hyacinths are the most electric, bright blue little spots of wonder! :-) Your post is so beautiful, you could make a poster!

How kind, Shady :) It's impossible not to fall in love ...

Lovely little things. I have been admiring them in my father's wild flower garden.

Hi Joey - what beautiful photos of the scilla. Mind you, I love every shade of blue and purple, so I'm in my element at this time of year!

I enjoy both your pictures and your quotes awfully much - it's a real treat, being 'invited' here.

Hi Marnie ~ I wait patiently each year for these beauties; my spring wildflower garden is my favorite!

Besides yellow, blue/purple seems to be a predominant spring color, Nutty, so I'm happy also!

Thanks for returning, Desmone, and leaving your lovely comment.

Thank you, dear Katarina ... I so enjoy your photos also. We share many favorites across the sea :)

Squills are such a beautiful blue, aren't they? And Rhapsody in Blue is one of my all time favorite songs, we recently went to see it performed by the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. It was fabulous! Sure is good to see that spring has finally decided to arrive there in chilly Michigan.

Love 'Rhapsody in Blue' and my squills, Robin! The blue sings a song that I hope all would stop and listen to :)
